“Ask the Lord for rain in the spring time; it is the Lord who makes the storm clouds. He gives showers of rain to men, and plants of the fields to everyone”. Zechariah 10:1
I watched a documentary once about a desert that had rain only once a year for about 2-3 days. Within no time at all after the rain, the seeds germinated, grew and the desert blossomed. The camera was speeded up to show the development quickly as the time from the rain to full flower was very short indeed. Within two or three weeks, the land dried up again, the plants shed their seed and withered, then the land became a barren waste land again for another 12 months.
In that documentary we see two seasons “wet” and “dry”. I feel like that sometimes, and we all go through different seasons in our spiritual lives. Sometimes we flourish and are very fruitful, other times we are dry and seemingly barren! In the good times it seems that whatever we touch prospers and is blessed, then the dry season comes and swallows up the plenty and we seem to be in want. I guess that’s how it seemed for Joseph and his contempory’s when the 7 years of plenty were swallowed up by the 7 years, of want. However, God can transform our dry barren seasons and hearts, our dry barren churches and our dry barren nations. Not only can He do this, but the above verse seems to indicate that He longs to. There seems however to be two prerequisites.
1) That we ask. It’s that simple, but very humbling because it reminds us of our need of God, and also remember, God’s not in to instant revival! He can do it but doesn’t do it in our time frame but His own.
2) Sometimes it requires waiting. The rain will come in its season, when the time is right. But we can keep asking as The Lord invites us to and then He will do it! And When He does, He will transform our barrenness to blossom- fullness.
Father in heaven. The invite is there again; you welcome us to ask of you for this great need of personal and Church wide revival. So I ask you great creator of storm and showers, shower upon us rain of revival so we may blossom, bloom and flourish for your glory. Send rain O God in this season of much needed reviving rain, that we your people may be refreshed and blessed and to be a blessing. Thank you Lord. Amen
