“The Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you’. (1Kings 3:5)
I wonder what I would ask for given the same question? Fame, riches, bigger home, a cottage in the country, a mega church? Solomon asked for wisdom to do what is right as the new King. God gave him his request and lots more, for God was very pleased with Solomon’s self-less request. Just as Solomon faced monumental tasks ahead of him, so too do we to one degree or another, so maybe we also should ask for wisdom.
You see, I believe God is daily asking us what we want especially regards His Kingdom! And He is more than willing to give it to us and especially wisdom, as we shall see when we look into James 1:5. So why ask for wisdom and not victory over all our enemies or national revival, or a Christian government? Well, all these things are right and proper, but whatever we ask for it needs to be done or maintained by wisdom! So if we first ask for wisdom, then whatever else we receive we will administer it in wisdom because we will already have received wisdom to handle everything else we get. Does that make sense? It does to me!
WISDOM. This is a gift from God. James 1:17. So it is not so much learned, but given, received, applied, then it develops!
WISDOM. Wisdom is a treasure and the writers of the books of proverbs give it high value.
WISDOM. Can get you into places and before people when knowledge and experience cannot.
WISDOM. Can help leaders lead, teachers teach, Governors govern etc.
WISDOM. Keeps our relationship with God in its right place, revering Him.
WISDOM. Basically helps us live the life and get it right. Jesus is Wisdom personified. Read about His life and see how He handled things with wisdom.
PRAYER O God I ask for wisdom that I may live life right. Not stumbling in the darkness, but walking in the light. To have a word in season, to do what’s good and true. To speak and act as Jesus did, so I may honour you. Amen
