2 Chronicles 20:4 ”And Judah came together to ask help from the Lord. (They came to seek the Lord, yearning for Him with all their desire)” Amplified Bible.
If you can, find time to read the whole account to get the context of this dire situation that had befallen the nation of Judah. A vast army was set to destroy them and they were very fearful. Jehoshaphat laid this desperate situation at the feet of the Lord and got the whole of Judah to cry out to Him, because they knew He was their only hope. They were outmatched, out gunned and out manned, but with God all things are possible. I believe the whole episode can be summed up in 6 points relating to prayer.
TRUST. Even though the odds were against them, and lets be real, at times it appears the odds are against us! And though at times it seems our backs are against the wall, yet, it’s our faith and trust in our faithful and trustworthy God that will help us prevail.
THE WORD. Faith pleases God. Faith comes from the word of God, so if you are surrounded by a host of problems and difficulties, seek God with all your desire, get a word from the bible and stand on it with hope and trust. This is what Jehoshaphet did, this is what every person of faith had to do, and we are no exception, it was, still is and will always be, God’s way of doing thing. The heavens and earth may pass away, but the word of the Lord remains forever.
PRAISE. As an act of faith the singers were sent ahead of the army, not quite the usual strategy for warfare! Lets be absolutely honest here, when our backs are against the wall do we really feel like praising the Lord? Well according to the principles here, it’s the best and right time.
MOVE. The singers and the army moved toward the enemy. Fear often immobilises us and we’re afraid to move forward and engage the problem or situation, but that’s the principle here, just keep moving forward and trust the Lord.
WATCH. See how God orchestrates the whole thing, He confuses the enemy and turns them against each other. Remember God is sovereign and in control. He scatters His enemies and what the enemy seeks for harm, the Lord will turn to good.
ENJOY. If you do this you will enjoy the spoils of success. God will always reward our faith and trust in Him. Without faith it is impossible to please God, and He will reward those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
PRAYER Father in heaven, I commit my situation/s to you. ———- I acknowledge that only you can deliver me from this testing and trying time. I put my faith, hope and trust in you to turn this for good and to bring victory out of seeming defeat. And I will give you all the praise in Jesus’ name amen
