Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to His power that is at work in us” Here we see another of the more than’s in the Bible. These verses are a hymn of praise to the goodness and greatness of God. Firstly notice ‘God is able’ it’s good to know that where and when we aren’t able, God is more than able. Where we lack knowledge, courage, ability, skill, power etc, God is able, and that’s enough.
Secondly, what can you imagine for in your life, your Church, the Kingdom, family, work etc? No matter how good or big your imagination can stretch, God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you can think, dream or imagine. God’s imagination is immeasurable and infinite, ours is limited and finite. God’s power and vision, is limitless, and He invites us to join Him in making dreams come true.
Now, here’s the crunch, here’s the real deal and it’s brilliant! It’s all according to His power at work within us. Now, hold that thought, and let it sink in and then relax, because it’s not up to you! We have certain responsibilities, yes, but we don’t have the power. In nature I can sow a seed and water it, but I can’t make it grow, that’s up to God, and there are things in this world that we have no power or ability to change, but God has and can and wants to through us, but it has to be according to His power at work within us. God is not limited, but because we limit Him, sometimes He is able to do only little through us (see Mark 6:5,6), because however much power He has, if we don’t earth it through the prayer of faith, then the ‘much more’ does not happen and very little changes. That’s not because God is limited, but because we have limited Him! Our minds limit Him, our hearts lack faith, our fears fetter His unlimited power. As Kings and priests in Christ, we have authority, dominion and power, and responsibility, but it’s in Him and through Him.
In the beginning, God created everything through His spoken word, through His authority, power and dominion; that has all passed to us through Christ. How do we make things happen then? Hebrews 11:3 say’s that by faith we understand that God created the heavens and the earth through His spoken word! It’s exactly the same for us! We speak out God’s word by faith. We take His creative word and
Quite simply, we ask God for all that we can ask or imagine for in our limited way then, watch how much more above that He can do. Now let’s get out what God’s put in us, and if God’s word isn’t in you, then go get it in!
