A DAILY DOSE OF COMMON SENSE
Proverbs 3:21 “Have two goals: wisdom–that is knowing and doing what is right-and common sense. Don’t let them slip away.”
What’s the difference between wisdom and common sense? I think common sense is a ‘general’ gift from God to everyone to help them to make right choices and decisions, and wisdom is a ‘special’ gift from God to those who follow Him to make godly choices and decisions based upon His will! Wisdom therefore includes common sense but goes beyond it. However, in both cases, the application of common sense is up to the individual! In both instances it’s a personal choice!
I find that some people generally have lost the ability to use common sense. Here’s a classic from just this week. One of my clients brusquely questioned why I had not trimmed the shrubs in front of her window that day! I replied that because the sun was out [Haaahaaa!] no, really, it was, that I therefore had to focus on the lawns which were getting quite long with all the rain! I explained that the forecast was good for that specific day, but that heavy rain was moving in overnight. [Which it did!] I promised to trim the shrubs [when I could] which in fact was the next day, because it’s easier to trim shrubs in the rain than mow the lawns! [That is common sense]. Nevertheless, she took umbrage with me and went off in a huff, and never thanked me the next day for doing the job despite getting soaked through to my skin. Oh well, all in a days work I guess! I will keep my common sense and humour to the last. 🙂
