THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

COMFORT 2 COMFORT

Psalm 40:1-3 ‘When I waited patiently for God to help me, then He listened and heard my cry. He lifted me out of a pit of despair, out from the swamp and mire, and set my feet on a rock and steadied me on a firm path as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, of praise to our God. Now many will hear of the glorious things he has done for me and stand in awe before the Lord and put their trust in Him’.

Now many will hear of the glorious things he has done for me and stand in awe before the Lord and put their trust in Him’.

We are coming to the close of this section of ‘comfort to comfort’ and ‘dealing with disappointment’, though I hasten to add there’s still a bit more to come! The above verse to me is what everything I have written so far is all about! This is David’s testimony of the deliverance of God and to the glory of His name. It’s his testimony out of the test! As I stated in a previous post, the folk who really can help others I believe, are the folk who have really been through it themselves, though I hasten to add, I am not devaluing folk who are trained counsellors, not by any means! When I was ill, I had some good counsel, but I know that they were giving me textbook advise, not personal testimony! I say again, if someone is going through [let’s say] divorce, their best help will come from someone who has been through divorce, got over it totally and by God’s grace have moved on. When I was saved, God didn’t send a smiley faced ‘Jesus loves you’ brought up in Church Christian to witness to me! He sent an ex Teddy boy, fighter, womaniser and spiritist to witness to me and get me to Church and finally to Christ Jesus! Why? Because I was a fighter, just come out of the Punk scene, I was a womaniser and was at that time a practicing spiritist!  But even then, it’s not about the person who is testifying, it’s about the one being testified about! “God” Note, ‘the glorious things He has done!’ And ‘stand in awe before the Lord!’ And ‘put their trust in Him!’

Our personal testimony and in fact our whole life should point to God! People should see God in us even when we are going through horrendous troubles. I remember when I first came to the Lord. I mean, I had had a pretty grim life and so the overwhelming love and freedom I began to experience from the Lord and Christians and finding whom God is and who I really was meant to be was quite exhilarating! I had genuine love, concern and interest lavished upon me by Father God and wonderful Christians; a love and acceptance I had never experienced at home and amongst my peers, and now as a new babe in Christ, I was the centre of attention and looking back, my testimony [though very powerful] was very much about me! God has done this for ME! God has done that for ME! God has saved ME! I am sure Abba Father just smiled down at me, but I kinda cringe when I think how self-centred I was. But now when I testify, it’s ‘look what GOD has done for me! Isn’t HE awesome! Isn’t GOD just wonderful!

  1. I won’t be able to thank you fully for the articles on your web-site. I know you’d put a lot of time and energy into all of them and hope you know how much I appreciate it. I hope I could do the same for someone else sometime.
