Galatians 4:4 ‘But when the right time came, the time God decided upon, He sent His son, born of a woman, born as a Jew’.

Let us continue with this thought on God’s perfect timing. I hope you are finding it interesting and challenging and not too boring? Part of God’s perfect timing was that the predominant language of the day was Greek, a very expressive language. The New Testament is written predominantly in Greek, so the timing of the best LANGUAGE had to be perfect.

Then there was the Pax Romana, which is Latin for Roman peace, which was the long period of relative peace and minimal expansion by military force experienced by the Roman Empire in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Because of this the expansion of Christianity was made relatively easy and of course the Romans brought crucifixion to Palestine, which was God’s choice of death for His son! And let us not forget that because of the pax Romana, the gospel came to the shores of Britannia, and thereafter most of the world, especially Africa, China and India! And not forgetting of course through the UK the gospel reached the shores of the USA.

And then there was the spiritual climate, which was perfectly timed by God! Because of the Babylonian Exile of Judah, Judaism slowly began to spread through the Gentile nations and many converts to Judaism were made! This is clear to see on the day of Pentecost when 3,000 converts were made in a moment, most of these were probably Gentile proselytes! And because of all this, the climate was ripe to fulfil prophecy, which stated that the Gentile nations would see a great light!

So, the language climate was just right. The geographical climate was just right, and the spiritual climate was just right and ripe for the incarnation of the Messiah. What does this tell us? Well for me, it remind me that no matter how long I have to wait for God’s timing, in the long run it is worth waiting for! God can change things in a twinkling of an eye! From Malachi to Matthew there are 4oo years. 400 years without a word from God, and then suddenly, in the blink of an eye, there are angels galore and the most liberating news ever spoken!

God was orchestrating everything, mixing this and blending that to make a perfect recipe for the incarnation! Not only the things I’ve mentioned, but the timing for Zecheriah’s tribe to be chosen to make intercession for the nation, then his being picked by lot was God’s perfect time for him to pray in the most holy place! The visitation to him by the angel! Elizabeth who was barren getting pregnant and to be pregnant with Christ’s forerunner who was prophesied 4oo years earlier by Malachi! Then if that isn’t enough, whilst all this is going on, 8-900 miles away in Chaldea, [Babylon] where the Jews had made an impact some 4-500 yrs earlier, God sends a star or comet or some bright light around that time to catch the attention of 3 Magi, who at that time would begin a journey that would take 1-2 years [Matt 2:7 & 16] to get them to Bethlehem to pay homage to the child and give gifts to Jesus  that His parents would need to pay for the trip to Egypt because Herod [by satan] was trying to kill the child and the gold would pay for their escape and exile in Egypt till it was time for them to return to Judea at God’s time and to fulfill prophesy. Phew!

So, what am I worrying about? God is in control! What a logistical nightmare for us, but it was easy peasey lemon squeezy for God! So, don’t give up, God knows best and in His time He will act.

PRAYER Heavenly Father God. Thank you for this wonderful time of year. Thank you that at just the right time, when the conditions were right for Messiah to be incarnated He was, in your way, your place and in your time. God, your timing is so perfect and |I know you are orchestrating events on my behalf so that I may fulfill your calling upon my life and to fulfill your purposes in your way and in your time. Thank you again for the beautiful words in Ecclesiastes “He has made everything beautiful in its time”. Thank you Father that when everything falls in to place in your time and by your will, it is then beautiful. The timing for the incarnation was beautiful, and because of it the one born was, is and will ever be beautiful. Thank you heavenly Father for your beautiful and perfect timing. Amen

God’s Timing is Perfect The second most thrilling day of my life was the birth of my first grandchild, Griffin. Debra asked me to be his godmother, as a symbol of her request to help establish Christian roots in our family. My grandson was baptized in his great grandmother’s church. My grandson named me “Nina.” My son is a loving father. A year and half later, I am blessed with a second grandson, Austin. He is baptized at the same church, and my husband is asked to be his godfather – again maintaining my daughter-in-law’s desire to establish Christian roots wherever she can. At this point, the pastor asks Debra to join the church after baptizing her babies there. She asks me whether she should ask my son to join the church, and I counsel her against it, as the timing for my son was not right, and he was not yet a believer. God’s timing is perfect. . .
