The KING fisher
1 Corinthians 11:24-26The Message (MSG)
23-26 Let me go over with you again exactly what goes on in the Lord’s Supper and why it is so centrally important. I received my instructions from the Master himself and passed them on to you. The Master, Jesus, on the night of his betrayal, took bread. Having given thanks, he broke it and said,
This is my body, broken for you.
Do this to remember me.
After supper, he did the same thing with the cup:
This cup is my blood, my new covenant with you.
Each time you drink this cup, remember me.
What you must solemnly realize is that every time you eat this bread and every time you drink this cup, you re-enact in your words and actions the death of the Master. You will be drawn back to this meal again and again until the Master returns.
Do this until he comes again. [TLB]
Up and down the UK today and worldwide, Christians will be celebrating Easter Sunday/resurrection morning. Many will be taking communion in remembrance of all that Jesus did that first Good Friday and 3 days later on resurrection day. Paul however makes it clear that it’s not just about looking back, but also looking forward to the 2nd advent of Christ upon His return! We won’t be partaking in the act of communion in heaven, [Do this UNTIL he comes again] When Christ comes back it won’t be necessary anymore to take communion, we’ll be in communion with Him, we’ll actually see the one who instituted it face to face and we will be with Him forever more.
So as we enjoy our Easter services this morning and especially if you take communion, don’t just remember what Jesus has done or is even doing, think about what He’s going to do! Think about His teaching regards His second advent! Have we occupied until He returns? Have we watched and prayed? Have we invested what He has invested in us? Will He be able to say well done good and faithful servant? Are we preparing for eternity by building our lives with gold, silver and precious jewels or wood, straw and stubble?
PRAYER gracious Father in heaven. I thank you for the precious gift of Jesus Christ, your very best gift to mankind. Thank you that He came to seek and save lost souls of which I was one. Thank you that Jesus is the KING fisher of souls, thank you that He netted me. Thank you that not only is Jesus the best, not only has He brought us the best and bringing the best out of us, but that the best is yet to come. Thank you that Jesus has brought halcyon days in to my life and in the eternity to come, peace, rest, tranquility and clam. Amen
