I finished my last post on this subject with these words-
“Words are seed. And so [OR SOW] what words are you sowing? Who’s heart soil are you sowing those words in to? [family, kids, spouse, work colleagues, Church members etc?]
Money is a seed! You hold on to it tightly and don’t sow it, then how can it produce a harvest? You have to sow to reap, speculate to accumulate and invest to generate returns!!
You yourself are a seed according to Jesus! Your gifts, skills, talents, minds, smiles etc are all seeds to be sown! But more of those next time? SOW, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO SOW TODAY?”
Firstly then MONEY IS A SEED! This is made perfectly clear in Paul’s teaching In 2 Corinthians 9 regards giving. READ all of chapter 9 to get the context! In verses 6 & 7 we see Paul using a gardening metaphor to explain generosity in giving into the service of God financially, and God’s generosity in rewarding your generosity by thoroughly blessing your harvest because of the seed you have sown!
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Are you then saying you believe in prosperity? Absolutely; that is “BIBLICAL PROSPERITY” which literally means to ‘SUCCEED IN REACHING!’ If you can get to the end of the month and have some money to spare and some to share, you are experiencing Biblical prosperity! You have more than enough with some to spare. John and Charles Wesley’s mother Susanna Wesley taught them wisely about money. ‘Spend some, save some and give some away!’ You can’t do that if you haven’t succeeded in reaching for yourself! Our Pastor Jon Colyer has been teaching on this recently and has given some amazing insights which I’ll share over the coming posts. But here’s one brilliant thought from him. In Egypt the Israelites only were given leeks, onions and garlic to eat. That was the land of NOT ENOUGH! In the wilderness God gave them manna from heaven; that was the land of JUST ENOUGH! When they entered the promised land the land flowing with milk and honey, they ate meat and bread, fruit and veg! It was the land of MORE THAN ENOUGH! I personally believe that’s where God wants His children to live on a daily basis. This is what the Bible say’s- “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way that you should go”. Isaiah 48:17 AMP
Now turn it around from being a statement to a question! WHO teaches us to profit? WHO leads us in the way that we should go? The answer to both those questions is-THE LORD YOUR REDEEMER, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL, THE LORD YOUR GOD! So, would our Redeemer redeem us from the land of not enough to continue to live in the land of not enough or even just enough? If God wants to bless the world through us, then how will that happen if we are not experiencing His bountiful blessings? How can we give out of an empty account? Simlply, we can’t! So we have to move from the land of not enough and the land of just enough, in to the land of more than enough! But how? Simple, you sow a seed! It starts with a seed, it starts with you! Jesus said- Luke 6:38 Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.
Why would our loving heavenly Father want us to struggle? I wouldn’t want my son to struggle and beg! Why is poverty so welcoming to the Church? Why does the Church think it should be poor, yet want to reach out and help those in poverty? How can that which is poor seriously help that which is in poverty and need? Our Pastor Jon said ‘we have to stop being the NEED and become the SEED!’ Simply put instead of just being takers, we need to be carers [seed to others] and caretakers those who take care of their own needs and the needs of others.
So, the question is am I a TAKER or a CARER AND CARETAKER? Go think about it and pray about it. More of this next time. Have a great day. And LIVE LONG AND PROSPER.
