Luke 12:54-59Living Bible (TLB)
54 Then he turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. 55 “When the south wind blows you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is. 56 Hypocrites! You interpret the sky well enough, but you refuse to notice the warnings all around you about the crisis ahead. 57 Why do you refuse to see for yourselves what is right?
Luke 12:54-59 Contemporary English Version (CEV)
Knowing What To Do
54 Jesus said to all the people: As soon as you see a cloud coming up in the west, you say, “It’s going to rain,” and it does. 55 When the south wind blows, you say, “It’s going to get hot,” and it does. 56 Are you trying to fool someone? You can predict the weather by looking at the earth and sky, but you don’t really know what’s going on right now.
Luke 12:54-59New Living Translation (NLT)
54 Then Jesus turned to the crowd and said, “When you see clouds beginning to form in the west, you say, ‘Here comes a shower.’ And you are right. 55 When the south wind blows, you say, ‘Today will be a scorcher.’ And it is. 56 You fools! You know how to interpret the weather signs of the earth and sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the present times.
Doesn’t mince His words does He!? Only up until the industrial revolution was farming the dominant occupation, and therefore predicting the weather was paramount to a successful crop and harvest! Farmers now, but even more so then depended directly on the weather for livelihood. They needed just the right amount of rain and sun to make a good living, and so farmers grew skilled in interpreting the weather patterns and natural signs.
Preceding the birth of Jesus Christ, during His birth and His ministry time, all the signs were there of His predicted 1st advent as foretold in the Torah and especially the psalms and prophetic writings! How on earth did a nation bar a few loyal disciples miss it? On the day of Pentecost there were 120 Jewish disciples, but 3000 got saved on the day and most of them were Gentile converts to Judaism. The chosen people of God missed His first advent because
- They failed to interpret the signs of the times, and
- Events were not panning out as THEY thought they should be or as they wanted them to be, and so they missed out, and were temporarily cut off from the olive tree and the wild branch [the Gentiles] were grafted in, ushering in the age of grace until the times of the Gentiles ends and the 7 year period of Jacob’s trouble commences.
- The masses obviously didn’t read or understand their Bibles [the Torah] and their spiritual leaders were not teaching the flock because they were too preoccupied with themselves!
So, let me ask us all a question, are we aware of the signs in this present age? Are we watching what’s happening in the middle east with Isis? In Israel, Russia, China north Korea, the Unites states, the UK and Europe? In the weather patterns, the roaring of the seas and the disorder of the weather patterns! The signs in the moon and the sun. The increase and intensity of apocalyptic events? Israel being cut off from their friends, people movement across the globe because of fear and terror! The shift of fortunes and power centres from the West to the East!
What should we do then? Well, I can only speak for myself, but I watch the news and have Bible at hand to see where we are on God’s prophetic timetable! I seek to serve the Lord as best I can and be a witness for Him. I have moved from “bless me only” prayers to heartfelt intercession calling God’s prodigals and backsliders back to Him in readiness for His return. Strategically loosing God’s angelic forces upon the earth and in specific places, and praying for the latter rain revival before Christ returns for His Bride. In other words, let us not be like God’s Old Covenant chosen ones who misread, misunderstood and missed out on His first advent, and let us [God’s New Covenant people] be ready and waiting for His second advent! In the meantime and in the words of the Master Himself: And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, “Occupy till I come”. Luke 19:13 [King James Bible] In other words, get on with your business, get on with God’s Kingdom business, mind your own business, and don’t miss the greatest event in Church history since the cross, the resurrection, the ascension and the day of Pentecost.
SO KEEP EM PEELED, WATCH AND PRAY, LOOK UP, YOUR REDEMPTION IS DRAWING NEAR.
