WHAT ON EARTH ARE WE DOING FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE?
Read this in word for today this morning and thought it was well worth a share!
Are You Burying Your Talent?
‘…I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground…’
One of the most familiar parables Jesus told illustrates how things work in God’s kingdom: ‘Then he who had received one talent came. “Master,” he said, “…I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground.”…His master replied, “You wicked, lazy servant!…You should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him …throw that worthless servant outside”’ (vv 24-29 NIV). Can you imagine going to work next Friday and watching your boss hand your pay packet to someone else, while you stand there? That’s exactly what’s going on in this story. It’s a picture of what will happen at the [bema]judgment seat of Christ—and you’ll be there to see it. Why did the Lord come down so hard on this guy? Because he buried his talent. And why did he bury it? Because he ‘was afraid’. Afraid of what? a) Afraid the talent God had given him wasn’t equal to the task. b) Afraid to take a risk in case he failed. c) Afraid he didn’t have the talents others had, therefore his didn’t count. Just like there are degrees of punishment in hell (Matthew 11:21-24), there will be degrees of reward in heaven. And how you use your talent now determines what your reward will be then. BOB GASS
Each of us is different, unique and our talents and gifting’s are just as different and unique. Someone may be multi-talented, some my have only one specific talent. It makes no difference to God! What is important is WHAT YOU DO WITH HIS TALENT/S! You may think of them as yours, but they were leant to you for God’s purposes! He invested them in you so that you in turn would invest them in His kingdom business. each of us is not only responsible for our talents, but we are also accountable to the Lord for what we do with them. And keep in mind, there are rewards and losses for how we used and invested HIS talents!
[1 Corinthians 3:10-15]
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
This servant was firstly a talent spotter! He looked at others talents and compared them with his own! DON’T DO THAT! Your talent is uniquely yours and theirs is theirs! Get on with your own business. secondly he was a talent spectator! He hid his talent and watched others using there’s. You get that a lot in Church especially regarding praise and worship! However, I want to be a talent speculator! What’s the definition of a speculator? It’s this:
risk-taker · investor · entrepreneur · opportunist · adventurer ·
Get the picture? Then get to it. IN LIGHT OF THE TIMES WE LIVE IN AND ALL THE SIGNS THAT POINT TO SOME IMMINENT EVENT HORIZON, WOULD IT NOT BE PRUDENT FOR US TO SERIOUSLY INVEST FOR ETERNITY AND NOT FOR THE TEMPORARY!?
