December 9th 2016 [day 9]
I am sure that you know there are 66 books in the Bible? 39 O.T. and 27 N.T. Did you also know there are 66 chapters in the book of Isaiah? It’s interesting that in Chapter 39 which would correspond with the last book of the old Testament shows King Hezekiah showing off all the treasures of His Kingdom to [so-called] dignitaries from Babylon [the old land of Chaldea] and which became the start of Judah’s downfall as they [the Babylonian Empire] desired the treasures and in fact came with a great army to plunder Judah of those treasures! Then go into the New Testament and after the genealogies and birth of the Messiah in Matthew chapter 1 in the New Testament, we see dignitaries coming ‘from’ the land of Babylon [Chaldea] ‘bringing’ treasures to ‘the new’ King of the Jews, Jesus Christ. I just find that very interesting! And then we see a change of tack from chapter 39 and into chapter 40 of Isaiah and the last 27 books in Isaiah! We see more mercy, grace, hope and comfort from chapter 40 of Isaiah and less judgement, which corresponds as I see it with the 27 books of the N.T!
Okay clever clogs you may say, but where are you taking this? What’s it got to do with Christmas? Advent? Or even the first and second advents? Ah, well come back tomorrow and YULE see.
PRAYER. Lord God I thank you that you are a God of mercy as well as justice. You have to be just and you have to administer judgement. But I thank you that mercy triumphs over judgement. I see your first advent Lord Jesus as God’s mercy and grace to us all. But I also understand that your judgement is yet to come and climaxing in your second advent Lord Jesus our messiah. Nevertheless, I pray that whilst we still have mercy and grace which abound, that you’ll help us to be salt and light to this world and to empower us to plunder hell to populate heaven. Thank you Lord amen.
