CHRISTMAS EVE December 24th 2016 [Day 24]
THE COST OF WORSHIP
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” [John 4:23-24]
Today we finish this look at worship and what it really is. Firstly, look at what it isn’t! It isn’t singing those nice ballad type songs every Sunday morning after the praise songs or notices! We don’t enter worship as a set piece or at a set time. We live and breath worship every second of every day, or at least that’s how I read Paul’s words in Romans 12:2!
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice–the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him”. Romans 12:1 New Living Translation
Did you notice what the Magi did? They not only bowed down to worship Him, they opened their treasure chests and pulled out very costly and valuable gifts! I guess in modern day terms we could say “THEY OPENED THEIR WALLETS, THEIR PURSES, THEIR CHEQUE BOOKS OR EMPTIED THEIR POCKETS”. Wherever I see a true act of worship I always see a sacrificial cost! Not just financial but something that costs us, be it time, energy or yes, money.
So, what ACT of worship [which is your reasonable service] are you going TO DO this Christmastime? Are you going to be A SEED OR THE NEED? Worship, love and giving are synonymous. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life!” [That to me demonstrates an act of worship!] “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ (was born for us) and died for us”. [Romans 5;8] Let me paraphrase John 3:16 as I see it. “God the Father and Creator of heaven and earth, the holy, Almighty, Omnipotent God was so full of love, mercy and compassion for humanity that He rolled up His sleeves, entered the muck and mire of this stinking sin filled world in and through His own precious Son and got his hands and feet dirty. HE DID SOMETHING PRACTICAL ABOUT A PHYSICAL & SPIRITUAL PROBLEM FOR AN ETERNAL OUTCOME!” He wasn’t a spectator but a participator! He entered the arena of battle and fought victoriously for our eternal well-being, so that we would not perish but live forever!” [my paraphrase]
APPLICATION: The wise men did wise acts. They SOUGHT after the LIGHT, they SAW the King of glory, they BOWED DOWN and WORSHIPED Him and they gave of their SUBSTANCE as an act of worship to HIM. Let us be found as wise and go and do likeWISE
So, I challenge you wherever you are today or whatever you are doing, to do an act of love, kindness and worship! Be the seed not the need. PRAYER: Today Creator God help me to do something of significance. Help me to make a difference. God of all wisdom, help me to say something useful today. Help me put a guard to my mouth and if I’m about to say something hurtful or of no value, then help me to just zip the lip. Amen.
