January 9th 2017 [Day 9]
WE REAP WHAT WE SOW
If you think you can fool God, you are only fooling yourselves. You will harvest what you plant. If you live to satisfy your sinful self, the harvest you will get from that will be eternal death. But if you live to please the Spirit, your harvest from the Spirit will be eternal life. We must not get tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest of eternal life at the right time. We must not give up. Galatians 6:7-9
Context: To perpetuate life, something has to be sown [A SEED] that isn’t rocket science! Seed has within itself the potential to reproduce that of its own kind! So, if I sow a cabbage seed I’ll get a cabbage plant etc. Now obviously a seed is smaller than its ultimate product. Now put that into practice like sowing a spiteful word you may reap much more than you sow. Now sow a kind deed and you’ll be rewarded with much kindness, it does work cuz it’s a law like gravity is a law! It works with many things like attitudes, morals and actions, in fact pretty much everything because of the law of sowing and reaping or as some term it “cause and effect!” However, if you sow to the wind [trouble] you will real the whirlwind [double trouble!]
Application: The law of seed time and harvest as I have said is: You sow a small seed and reap a greater harvest. So, stand before a group of people and sow a smile, I guarantee you’ll get lots of smiles back. Now stand before a group and sow a contentious word and you’ll reap strife! God’s word is a seed [Luke 8:11]. And WE are likened to seeds. So in both cases we need to get the seed out of the packet and in to the soil. The Bible likens our hearts to soil, so the seed of God’s word needs to be sown into our own hearts and others hearts. The Bible likens the world as a field which needs us to be sown into it [think about that one!] The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. Matthew 13:38 NLT. So, if I am a seed, and God is the Sower, what do you think He wants to do with me? SOW ME! And where does He want to sow me? IN THE FIELD OF THE WORLD! Why? Because then there will be multiplication from my life because I’ll be taking divine DNA into a fertile field and there is bound to be a harvest from that somewhere! This happened to the early Church! Just before Jesus ascended He spoke these words: ”But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 A short time after this, they were still in Jerusalem looking pretty settled there! So what happened?
Persecution Scatters the Believers
Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria. (Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.) But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison.
Philip Preaches in Samaria
But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. Philip, for example, went to the city of Samaria and told the people there about the Messiah. Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did. Many evil[ spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city. Acts 8:1-8
Notice the believers were scattered like seed! This was the first wave of persecution! Notice where! JUDEA and SAMARIA, the two places Jesus told His disciples to go after Jerusalem! Then there’s a harvest in Samaria. But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized [8:12]. And then, the prime instigator of the persecution gets saved and he starts to take the gospel to the rest of the world. See, God knows what He is doing and how to do it! Note, if we don’t GO God will lovingly but firmly constrain us to go.
Prayer: Ask the lord to sow you into the field where you will be most effective and productive!
