 Mark 11:24

For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it]. AMPC

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it [are receiving it], and it will be yours. ESV

‘Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them’. NKJV

Okay, before we break the verse down and identify conditions to the promises, let’s first look at what hinders answered prayer!

Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.  And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.” So Jesus answered and said to them, Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. [Be a mountain mover!] Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Note the highlighted” words above:

  1. Lack of faith hinders answer to prayer!
  2. Doubt hinders answer to prayer!
  3. Unbelief hinders answer to prayer!
  4. Unasked prayers, unbelieved for prayers and unrecieved prayers hinder answers to prayer!
  5. Unspecific [bless me Lord] prayers hinder answer to prayer.
  6. Unforgiveness hinders answer to prayer!
  7. Undealt with trespasses hinders answer to prayer!  And
  8. Lack of expectancy hinders answer to prayer!

It’s interesting to note that in some of the newer Bible texts, verse 26 is omitted! Hmmmmm go chew on that one! So, now we have dealt with the hindrances to answered prayer, let’s look at the helps to answered prayer!  Whatever things you ask!” To even begin to get answers to prayer, you need to ask! Sounds obvious, but some folk just expect God to answer unuttered prayer requests! If you don’t ask [condition] you won’t receive [promise]. let’s put it into the context of gardening! You buy a packet of seeds, you open the packet of seeds, and then you scatter the seeds onto the soil and they germinate, grow and give you a harvest! Now our prayers are spoken words and they in turn are like seed and if you pray “God’s word” those seed are even more potent! [I’ll look at that in a few days time!] So if our words are seeds, then our open mouths speaking them are the open packet of seeds. And the more abundantly we sow [speak specific requests especially “the I will promises” in the Bible], the greater the harvest we will reap! Can you see that? Super duper!! So, tomorrow we will look at the “whatever things?” What can we or should we ask for?

PRAYER: Go find a scripture that is relevant to your situation/s and treat it as a seed in a packet! Open your mouth and scatter the seed! [PRAY IT!] Then expectantly wait for it to become your harvest.
