I will weave in and out of the signs teaching, but I have other stuff I want to share also!
The teaching that there is no pre-tribulation rapture is gaining ground, so too for the post millennial and partial preterist viewpoint!” [More on that another time]. I think the main argument of the post millennialist’s is the one they always seem to start out with! So let us look at that.
Rapture doctrine is one of the most recent “new doctrines” in the history of the Church. The fact that John Nelson Darby invented the pre-tribulation rapture doctrine around 1830 AD is unquestionably true. All attempts to find evidence of this wild doctrine before 1830 have failed.
So, let us read what first Thessalonians says?! “Now also we would not have you ignorant, brethren, about those who fall asleep in death], that you may not grieve [for them] as the rest do who have no hope [beyond the grave]. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep in death]. For this we declare to you by the Lord’s [own] word, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall in no way precede [into His presence] or have any advantage at all over those who have previously fallen asleep [in Him in death]. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first. Then we, the living ones who remain [on the earth], shall simultaneously be caught up along with [the resurrected dead] in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so always (through the eternity of the eternities) we shall be with the Lord! Therefore comfort and encourage one another with these words”. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC) Paul who had insight into this event encouraged and comforted them with these words from the Lord! [Are we to argue Paul’s genuineness in these words?] Note the BOLD words! If a pre-tribulation rapture was not expected or imminent and was a ‘NEW DOCTRINE’ [a thing] of 1800 years in the future, then why was Paul and the Church of Thessalonica expecting Christ to return imminently? The WE’s and YOU’s etc are in the present tense of the ‘then’ real time context.
The Christians at Thessalonica were concerned that folk were dying and would miss the Lord’s return [in the air] (then we the living ones remaining [together] with them shall be seized in clouds to a meeting of the Lord in the air and so always with the Lord shall be). Literal translation from the Greek. So to say the pre-trib rapture is an ‘invention’ or a ‘wild doctrine’ or a ‘new doctrine’ is to do John Nelson Darby and injustice. [GO FISH]
