God puts the CALM in CALaMity.
So, we have looked at 3 possible scenarios regarding harpazo [the forceful snatching away of the Church from the earth!] The second and third on the surface could lead us to get a bit stressed out and anxious at just the thought of it. I was trying to think of words to express what it would be like if there was a world war 3 or the forces of nature [which are being rocked even now] get 10 times worse!? So here are the ones I’ve thought of:
*Disastrous *Catastrophic *Cataclysmic *Devastating *Dire *Tragic *Fatal *Ruinous *Crippling *Awful *Dreadful *Terrible *Woeful *Grievous *Calamitous *Direful *Disastrous *Calamity.
It was when I looked over these words that I noticed that the word “calamity” had within it the word calm! This reminded me of Jesus in the boat in the middle of the raging storm and he slept like a baby because not only did He know His Father in heaven would protect Him, He also knew He Himself was the Prince of Peace and He was the calm in the storm and He knew also that He had complete power and authority in and over this demonic storm!
FIG 1 The eye is so calm because the now strong surface winds that converge towards the center never reach it. The Coriolis force deflects the wind slightly away from the center, causing the wind to rotate around the center of the hurricane (the eye wall), leaving the exact center (the eye) calm.
So, whatever storms are in your life right NOW find Christ at the centre of the storm and abide in Him! Or those that may yet come or the increase of those worldwide as we see riots and almost civil war in Venezuela, the threat of North Korea, Iran, China and Russia. Of the threat of conflict in India and China, the escalating tensions in Israel, the threat of more volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunami’s, more storms to come, flooding, famine, the threat of drought and fires in Italy and fires across Europe and the States, civil unrest worldwide, not to mention financial troubles ahead, and the possible threat of Cosmic cataclysmic destruction. He can also be found in these storms likewise! No wonder the Lord said:
“And there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; and upon the earth [there will be] distress (trouble and anguish) of nations in bewilderment and perplexity [without resources, left wanting, embarrassed, in doubt, not knowing which way to turn] at the roaring (the echo) of the tossing of the sea, Men swooning away or expiring with fear and dread and apprehension and expectation of the things that are coming on the world; for the [very] powers of the heavens will be shaken and caused to totter”. Luke 21:25-26
But in Jesus’ words to the disciple regards His going away and His return for His Bride [the Church] and what would transpire over the years between these events, He comforted them with these words: Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me. John 14:1 Jesus would not use this phraseology if there was not something coming that our flesh and souls would fear! However, He said also “Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled”.] John 14:27 Jesus knew what would befall His disciples and He knows what is just around the corner from us! But the words He spoke to them then also apply to us now! Jesus also said: “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you”.] John 26:33
And finally a few very wonderful and timely words from Paul:
WHATEVER IS COMING UPON THE EARTH, AND SOMETHING IS COMING, NEVERTHELESS, WHATEVER IT MAY BE, FIND THE PEACE OF CHRIST IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM. REMEMBER, BOTH THE WISE MAN’S AND THE FOOLISH MAN’S HOUSES [LIVES] WERE BATTERED BY THE STORM, BUT THE WISE MAN BUILD UPON A STRONG FOUNDATION OF THE STUDY AND APPLICATION OF THE WORDS OF CHRIST! THE FOOLISH MAN BUILT HIS LIFE UPON THE FOUNDATION OF THE LIES AND PHILOSOPHIES OF THIS WORLD! THE WISE STOOD STRONG IN THE STORM, THE FOOLISH COLLAPSED! SO, WHICH ONE ARE YOU?
