Musings And Meditations.

Mark 6:48 ‘Jesus saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves’.   I want to continue with this theme a little longer. The disciples were somewhere out in the middle of the lake, struggling against the wind and waves. Jesus was on the mountain praying for them. He had commanded them to set out on the journey, He had given them a chosen destination, and now they were finding it extremely hard to get anywhere! They were rowing hard; they were doing their best and doing what they knew, yet, to no avail! It seemed hopeless and they must’ve felt like giving up!

Ever been there? Maybe you’re there now? Jesus has chosen us and called us and given us an eternal destiny. He knows it’s gonna be tough for us, so He’s in heaven interceding for us right now! Usually the journey starts out great, exciting, and exhilarating! We know the finish line is going to be a spectacular experience, but it’s getting through the pain in the middle that’s the hardest. Ask a marathon runner! They’ll tell you the start is fine and the finishing post is fantastic, but it’s the ‘keeping going’ in between that is the toughest because you just want to give up. Your body is screaming out for rest and sleep and an end to all this pain! This is where Elijah was when he fled from Jezebel and before his mount Horeb experience! Peter Jenkins calls it  ‘the muddle in the middle!’ I like that too! What do you do when you are in this place? You just keep going! God has promised and He is faithful and He will fulfil His promise to get us there! We have to just keep on trusting and keep running, or rowing or praying, or whatever it is you need to do?

PRAYER   Gracious and loving God. You know what I am going through in my life at the moment and the struggles in the middle I am experiencing. It all started out so well! Wow how I remember those times! And yes, I know it’s going to get better and I’ll experience greater joys than I’ve known yet to come on earth and in heaven for ever more; but at the moment I am between a rock and a hard place and I don’t know what to do except trust you and keep pressing on, and so in Jesus’ name I will. Give me the strength to do it in Jesus’ name amen.
