Mark 15:17 Then the Roman soldiers took him into the barracks of the palace, called out the entire palace guard, dressed him in a purple robe, and made a crown of long, sharp thorns and put it on his head.  TLB.

They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head. NLT

Image result for what did the crown of thorns look like

I have thought long and hard about the crown of thorns and its spiritual application. The Praetorian guard were having themselves some fun, but behind that fun were demonic tormentors. They must have thought this was hilarious sport. Just viz the scene from the chronicles of Narnia “The Lion the witch and the wardrobe!” By CS Lewis! The harpies, witches, werewolves and ogres etc, were all having a party because Aslan was in their power to do with as they pleased! However, what those harpies and hags didn’t realize was that this would come back and bite them on the bum! And likewise those tormentor demons didn’t understand what was going on but would soon suffer the consequences of their actions!

So, please bear with me as I share these verses and then apply them.

And to the man he said,

“Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:17-19

But if you fail to drive out the people who live in the land, those who remain will be like splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will harass you in the land where you live. Numbers 33:55

You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Matthew 7:16

Even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. 2 Corinthians 12:7

See also Matthew 13:22 and  Hebrews 6:8

Application: It doesn’t take rocket science to work out that anything to do with thorns is cursed! Most scholars associate thorns with demonic tormentor activity. So, the crown of thorns on Christ’s head therefore represents demonic tormenting of our minds and cursing’s on us. However, Jesus’ blood flowed on those thorns, completely nullifying the demonic curses, lies and torments upon our thought life, and to boot, because Christ became cursed for us, no curse can touch us and a curse has to land on someone, so if it can’t touch me, then the curse goes back to the cursor! Hence, the demons curses came back to bite them. So, what benefit is this for me? Well, here’s a prayer to pray if you feel tormented in your mind:

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I feel tormented and harassed in my mind. I pray for relief, so Jesus, your head, mind and thoughts became cursed through the crown of thorns, however I understand and declare that your blood flowed on those demonic cursed thorns and I overcome these ills by your blood Lord Jesus. I receive release by your blood now in your matchless name. Thank you amen.

Ok. This is a long one but it needs to be! Please press on in it! This is where it gets nasty. Please understand I am not trying to glory the gory! My friends if we do not grasp the severity of what Jesus went through and suffered physically and spiritually, we’ll never fully grasp the abhorrence and utter depravity of our sins that eventually nailed God The Creator to a Cursed tree that He created to die for His creation.

The scourging was horrendous torture to extract maximum pain and prolonged suffering. Those who devised and used this method of torture were evil sadists. However, we really do need to grasp what went on here in the physical so we can fully understand how to love and worship our God and apply the promise of Isaiah 53:5.

Context: “Roman floggings were known to be terribly brutal. They usually consisted of thirty-nine lashes but frequently were a lot more than that, depending on the mood of the soldier applying the blows. The soldier would use a whip of braided leather thongs with metal balls woven into them. When the whip would strike the flesh, these balls would cause deep bruises or contusions, which would break open with further blows. And the whip had pieces of sharp bone as well, which would cut the flesh severely. “The back would be so shredded that part of the spine was sometimes exposed by the deep, deep cuts. The Medical Evidence of these whipping is that they would have gone all the way from the shoulders down to the back, the buttocks, and the back of the legs. It was just terrible.” Metherell paused. “Go on,” I said. “One physician who has studied Roman beatings said, ‘As the flogging continued, the lacerations would tear into the underlying skeletal muscles and produce quivering ribbons of bleeding flesh.’ A third-century historian by the name of Eusebius described a flogging by saying, ‘The sufferer’s veins were laid bare, and the very muscles, sinews, and bowels of the victim were open to exposure.’ “We know that many people would die from this kind of beating even before they could be crucified. At the least, the victim would experience tremendous pain and go into hypovolemic shock.” Metherell had thrown in a medical term I didn’t know. “What does hypovolemic shock mean?” I asked. “Hypo means ‘low,’ vol refers to volume, and emic means ‘blood,’ so hypovolemic shock means the person is suffering the effects of losing a large amount of blood,” the doctor explained. “This does four things. First, the heart races to try to pump blood that isn’t there; second, the blood pressure drops, causing fainting or collapse; third, the kidneys stop producing urine to maintain what volume is left; and fourth, the person becomes very thirsty as the body craves fluids to replace the lost blood volume.” “Do you see evidence of this in the gospel accounts?” “Yes, most definitely,” he replied. “Jesus was in hypovolemic shock as he staggered up the road to the execution site at Calvary, carrying the horizontal beam of the cross. Finally Jesus collapsed, and the Roman soldier ordered Simon to carry the cross for him. Later we read that Jesus said, ‘I thirst,’ at which point a sip of vinegar was offered to him. “Because of the terrible effects of this beating, there’s no question that Jesus was already in serious to critical condition even before the nails were driven through his hands and feet.”

Isaiah 53:5  (NKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

1 Peter 2:24-25  (NKJV) Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.  For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Psalm 129:3 Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long. This prophetic description by Isaiah of what the messiah had to endure was written 750 years before the name Jesus was even known!

The bible does not say you are going to be healed. It says; you were healed. It IS already done!!! The circumstances, diagnoses and doctors may say you are sick, but God’s word says you have already been healed!! He came to set the captives free by being bruised, wounded, mocked, chastised, bled and died on that wooden cross for ALL the guilt, shame, depression, addictions, sickness, perversity and disease for ALL who claim Him as their Savior!! As true “Christians”, we have the choice of either claiming God’s Word, or claiming the diagnoses or circumstance causing the problem. We must truly understand and believe God’s word to claim it! So what does it really mean that “by His stripes we were healed? ”The Old Testament prophet declared, “The plower’s plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.” (Psalms 129:3) Seven hundred and fifty years earlier, Isaiah had prophesied concerning the coming Messiah! “I gave my back to the smiter, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. (Isaiah 50:6)

It has been said that Jesus went through 39 lashings on His back just for our healing. 39 stripes each represent a different major disease category. Insurance companies usually insure you for 36 major illnesses and look on as recently, the World Health Organization changed the ICD coding systems used to categorize disease and illness, from a list of 17 to 39 major categories!! How true these figures are I don’t know! However, why whip Jesus’ back for healing? It probably was 39 lashes, so maybe there’s a connection? GO FISH!

By his stripes we are healed
By his nail-pierced hands we’re free
By his blood, we’re washed clean
Now we have the victory.

The power of sin is broken,
Jesus overcame it all,
He has won our freedom,
Jesus has won it all  [Planet Shakers]

Prayer:  As you feel you ought or are lead to.

Image result for A new heart in christ pics

Good morning. When I read this yesterday I thought “I really need to share this”, but I didn’t have time yesterday. It so touched my heart. When I read about when the 2 mothers met, tears flowed and when I thought that that’s what happened to me when Jesus came into my life, He gave me His spiritual heart, I wept some more. Enjoy this little treat 😀 JW

Christ is in you (1)

‘I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.’

Ezekiel 36:26

When God said, ‘I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you,’ you could call it ‘a spiritual heart transplant’. Tara Storch understands this miracle. In 2010 a skiing accident claimed the life of her thirteen-year-old daughter, Taylor. What followed for Tara and her husband, Todd, was every parent’s worst nightmare: a funeral, a burial, a flood of questions and tears. They decided to donate their daughter’s organs to needy patients; and few people needed a heart more than Patricia Winters. Her heart had begun to fail five years earlier, leaving her too weak to do much more than sleep. Taylor’s heart gave Patricia a fresh start in life. Taylor’s mum had only one request: she wanted to hear her daughter’s heartbeat. She and Todd flew from Dallas to Phoenix and went to Patricia’s home, where the two mothers embraced for a long time. Then Patricia offered Tara and Todd a stethoscope. The question is: when they listened to the healthy rhythm, whose heart did they hear? Did they not hear the still-beating heart of their daughter? It now dwelt in a different body, but the heart was still the heart of their child. And when God hears your heart, does He not hear the still-beating heart of His Son? Paul said, ‘It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me’ (Galatians 2:20 NKJV). The apostle sensed within himself not just the philosophy, ideals, and influence of Christ, but the person of Christ. Christ moved in – and He still does. ‘Christ in you, the hope of glory’ (Colossians 1:27 NKJV).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father God. I thank you for my new heart and life through Jesus Christ, my hope of glory! I thank you that He came into my life in June 1983 and I have not been the same since and neither would I want to be and I certainly don’t look back in regret but forward with plentiful hope, confidence, purpose, grit and great determination. Father God, you offered me a Perfect Part Exchange, my old rotten life for an amazing new one and no money crossed palms! WOW God, you are awesome and amaZING! All I had to do was believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and receive Him into my life, then you gave me the eternal legal right to be adopted into your family, to become a child of God and have my old rotten name changed to your perfect name. God, my King and Creator, I am eternally grateful. Amen.

Then they began to spit in Jesus’ face and beat him with their fists. And some slapped him Matthew 26:67

They shall see my Servant beaten and bloodied, so disfigured one would scarcely know it was a person standing there. So shall he cleanse many nations. Isaiah 52:14

I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting. Isaiah 50:6

Context: The next time we see blood drawn is at the false trial where Jesus was punched and slapped around the face. An old Testament prophesy say’s ‘I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard’. Though the New Testament gospels don’t mention this some therefore refute the beard theory! Nevertheless many scholars believe the old Testament prophesy stands. Whichever; the fact is Jesus was beaten hard about the face to the point of disfigurement beyond recognition. Before I got saved I was a vicious thug. Many times I had beaten someone up real bad and visa versa, and not once was there no blood shed. And so here we see Jesus’s face being bloodied. But what is the significance of the face?

Faces are essential to expressing emotion, consciously or unconsciously. A frown denotes disapproval; a smile usually means someone is pleased. Being able to read emotion in another’s face is “the fundamental basis for empathy and the ability to interpret a person’s reactions and predict the probability of ensuing behaviors”. They are also representative of parents and family. Mankind originally was made in the image of God, Jesus is the express image of God. and though we have to be careful here because God is Spirit, nevertheless, to look upon Jesus was to see the Father. My own thoughts and meditations on this is that satan through these evil men was beating up the face of God! The devil hates God and for millennia Lucifer looked upon the face of God the Almighty and when he rebelled would long to punch God’s face! Well now he gets his moment! The face then [I believe] represents who we are, our personality, character, dignity, humanity and I am sure we could add many more.

Application: I believe this teaches us that Jesus shed His blood to redeem our dignity, our humanity our distinctiveness and parenthood from Adam to now and our original parenthood of God as well as many other areas of our humanity. His face was disfigured and bloodied so that our faces [the redeemed] may reflect God’s light from one degree of glory to another.

Prayer: Great and Mighty Creator God. I thank you for all that you did for me through Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. I thank you that you redeemed my humanity and restored my dignity. Thank you that your face was beaten and bruised so that mine would one day fully reflect the image and glory of God just as the moon reflects the glory of the sun, so help me to reflect the glory of your Son. Amen.

Image result for Luke 22:44 pics

Context [The garden of Gethsemane] Many people think the blood walk of Jesus began in the city of Jerusalem [The Via Dolorosa (Latin: “Way of Grief,” “Way of Sorrow,” “Way of Suffering” or simply “Painful Way”; which is a street within the Old City of Jerusalem, believed to be the path that Jesus walked on the way to his crucifixion. The winding route from the Antonia Fortress west to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre—a distance of about 600 metres (2,000 feet)—is a celebrated place of Christian pilgrimage. The current route has been established since the 18th century, replacing various earlier versions. It is today marked by nine Stations of the Cross; there have been fourteen stations since the late 15th century, with the remaining five stations being inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. [Wikipedia]

HEMATIDROSIS. I propose the way of suffering or what I call ‘the blood way’ started in Gethsemane! He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood. Luke 22:44 The medical term for this is: Hematidrosis! It is a rare condition in which a human being sweats blood. Leonardo Da Vinci described a soldier who sweated blood before battle. Jesus Christ experienced hematidrosis while praying in the garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion as mentioned in the Defenders Bible by Physician Luke as “and being in anguish he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

We cannot imagine what Jesus went through in those dark hours where He prayed ‘Father if this cup of suffering can be removed then please do it, but nevertheless not my will but yours be done’. This is what Alexander Metherell, M.D., PH.D. has to say about Jesus in Gethsemane: ‘Jesus prayed all night and now during that process He was anticipating the coming events of the next day. Since He already knew the amount of suffering He was going to have to endure, He was quite naturally experiencing a great deal of psychological distress. So much so that blood mingled with His sweat. It is not a common condition, but it is associated with a high degree of psychological stress. He goes on: What happens is that severe anxiety causes the release of chemicals that break down the capillaries in the sweat glands. As a result, there’s a small amount of bleeding into these glands, and sweat comes out tinged with blood. We’re not talking about a lot of blood; it’s a small amount but nevertheless noticeable. This would affect the epidermis and make it very fragile so that when Jesus was scourged by the Roman guards His skin would be very very sensitive. [Excerpt from A CASE FOR EASTER. Lee Strobell]

Application:  It is noticeable that Jesus’s blood flowed in a time of anxiety, torment of soul, whilst in psychological distress. We know that the blood of Jesus heals and cleanses us and has power over all the work of the devil! So Jesus had to shed His blood whilst in anguish of mind and soul so that through His blood we too could experience freedom and liberty from distress and anxiety of soul if we so choose.

The Servant King (From Heaven you came)

From heaven you came helpless babe
Entered our world, your glory veiled
Not to be served but to serve
And give Your life that we might live

This is our God, The Servant King
He calls us now to follow Him
To bring our lives as a daily offering
Of worship to The Servant King

There in the garden of tears
My heavy load he chose to bear
His heart with sorrow was torn
‘Yet not My will but Yours,’ He said [ Graham Kendrick].

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you that Jesus endured anguish and psychological distress so that I may be free from it if I so choose to believe and apply the blood prayerfully to my life. So I choose to believe and thank you that we defeat the devil through the blood of Jesus Christ and the testimony of our declaring it. Amen.

Image result for John 12:23-26 pics

Before we start looking intently at the crucifixion it is good to ask “why did Jesus have to go through this?” Now I could share with you a massive theological treaties on sacrifice, redemption, justification, propitiation and tons of stuff like that! However, I find that stuff really hard to plow through at times, so let’s take this to its most simplistic and most basic level, the one in fact that Jesus Himself taught us. In fact to PLOW through it is part of the idea! Listen to this:

John 12:23-26  (ERV) Jesus said to them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to receive his glory. It is a fact that a grain of wheat must fall to the ground and die before it can grow and produce much more wheat. If it never dies, it will never be more than a single seed. Whoever loves the life they have now will lose it. But whoever is willing to give up their life in this world will keep it. They will have eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me. My servants must be with me everywhere I am. My Father will give honor to anyone who serves me.

Jesus replied, Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory.  I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.  Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.  Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me. John 12:23-26 NLT

CONTEXT: In its most simplistic explanation, “if Jesus had not have died, then He would’ve ended up as a King without any subjects! The Father would have no adopted children and the Holy Spirit no vessels to fill. As a single seed Jesus had to be sown in to the ground [death] to be able to rise into new life and produce many seeds “us” His loyal subjects! “Us” children for the Father to adopt and “us” vessels for the Spirit of God to fill.

Image result for pics of Christ on the cross

The only way anyone can get a crop in ones garden or field is by sowing seed. The seed dies and is raised up as a new life out of the now dead shell! Therefore, it stands to reason that the only way to get spiritual fruitfulness also is by sowing seed in to ones heart! Seed is an amazing miracle of God. Just use your imagination, take a runner bean for example, within that single bean there is potentially an 8-10 foot vine which could bear possibly lets say, 20 bean pods, each pod containing say 5 seeds in this season! In this the first season you could sow the one seed, it will produce 10 pods each containing 5 seeds, so by the end of the first season you will have gained 50 seeds. That’s pretty good returns for your small investment, now, say you don’t eat those beans but save them and sow them the next year! Now at the end of season two if all seeds germinate and produce the expected yield, you will now have 2,500 seeds from one seed in just two seasons, now sow all those seeds! I’ll let you do the math to see your returns by season three.

Now can you see why Jesus had to die and be raised to newness of life. Isaiah saw it and wrote this: Yet it was the will of the Lord to bruise him; He has put him to grief; when he makes himself an offering for sin, He shall see his offspring, he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand; He shall see the fruit of the travail of his soul and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous; and he shall bear their iniquities. Isaiah 53:10-11 RSV.

APPLICATION: Now, if that’s the case for natural seed and God’s word is seed, then it stands to reason that if we sow God’s word it will bear fruit! And if we are God’s seed and we allow Him to sow us into the world which is His field, the WE also will bear much fruit for the Master as we are sown into the earth! Think of all the potential in God’s word and the abundance of fruit it potentially can bear if only we sow it and in to good soil! Now, let’s take it a step further; if I, as a gardener, buy lots of seed packets and put them on the shelf ready to sow but never do, then I think you would agree I’m, a bit of a fool? It would be a waste of money, for unless I sow the seeds; there can be no returns for that investment! If I never open the packet, I have no right to expect a harvest, or bear fruit! Well I don’t know about you, but I have probably got 6 or more Bibles on my shelf, and just like natural seeds in a packet, if I don’t take my Bible off the shelf, open it, and scatter the seed of the word richly into my heart soil, then, likewise, I have no right to expect a harvest of spiritual fruitfulness! There is so much potential in the word of God, it is alive, active and potent, BUT IT HAS TO BE SOWN! And there is so much potential in us [seeds/children of God, that if we just allow the father to shake us out of our packets of complacency, then there will indeed be a great harvest for the Kingdom because WE HAVE TO BE SOWN. That is a natural law and a supernatural/spiritual law too!

PRAYER: Father God in heaven. You sowed your Son the Lord Jesus in to this world and through His death and resurrection; you have produced a multitude of fruitfulness in saved souls. Jesus sowed your word into the soil of peoples hearts and lives to produce fruit for your glory and Kingdom, now I pray, help me to sow your word richly into my life and the lives of others so that Jesus may see fruit for the travail of His soul and be satisfied and help me to be willing to be sown into the field of this earth so that you may recieve fruit, more fruit and abundant fruit from my life be it 30, 60 or even 100 fold returns. Amen and Amen

Image result for pics of Christ on the cross

Ok, Easter is only a few short weeks a way and I want to take a good LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG look at the road to the cross! From Gethsemane to Golgotha. From the cup of sorrows to the cross of suffering. Very often the crucifixion is portrayed as quite tame! I propose to blow that fallacy out of the water. It was a bloodbath, a slaughter-house of blood, guts and gore except in a slaughter-house the animal is stunned and [almost] dead, Jesus wasn’t! He was conscious of every cut, gash, rip and tear of His flesh. He felt every blow! It took Him hours not minutes to die. If it is too much for you to bear then please don’t read any more of these posts! However, I would suggest that you don’t turn your back on the truth and reality of what our Lord, Master and Saviour did for us on that bloody road! He deserves better than that. We will then look beyond that to Christ’s burial and resurrection. This road is going to be very hard for some to walk down, nevertheless, Jesus walked it for us and the least we can do is walk it in remembrance of Him, after all, we take communion regularly in remembrance of Him, perhaps after reading this we will change the way we view the bread and wine? Yes, they are only symbols, BUT when we take them, do we really realize what Jesus truly suffered?

Now [I hope] after doing these meditations that we will?! Please let me say, in writing this that it in no way dishonors the memory of our awesome Redeemer! What I write is Biblical and historical fact whether some folk believe it or not, I believe it, millions believe it so as far as I am concerned, that settles it. And so what is written really happened to Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God. I am asking you to walk down this dusty and blood spattered road with me because many Christians don’t realize what Jesus the Messiah has achieved [literally endure] to redeem us back to God and as I have been studying this for some years now I feel it is time to let others see into this powerful truth who may not have the time or inclination to research it themselves. I have researched this material quite extensively and though much of it is what great scholars and theologians have spent their lifetime studying, yet I have discovered that many Christians don’t read or research for themselves in these days of super techno where many things are thought out for us and so we have become very lazy indeed [mentally]! And so, I am hoping you will look at my simplified studies on this subject. I will keep each section short, concise and as straightforward and uncomplicated as I possibly can! For easier assimilation, I will use my “easy to understand and remember” method of study which I call C.A.P.: Context Application Prayer. The first letters of each word spells C.A.P. which means they should take head or top place in our minds! I will first look at the subject matter in Context of the days in which it was written! I will then bring a ‘life Application’ to help us apply it now in present real-time! I will then Pray a Prayer asking Father to help us apply these teachings to our lives!

Prayer: Heavenly Father God. My prayer is that you will join us [as you did in Christ Jesus with the two brothers on the road to Emmaus] and on this journey together, we may grow in awe and reverent fear of our wonderful Saviour Jesus Christ and become more mature in Him as we seek to become more and more like Him. Amen
