HIDE AND SEEK [coming ready or not]
Then the eyes of the two of them were opened [that is, their awareness increased], and they knew that they were naked; and they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool [afternoon breeze] of the day, so the man and his wife hid and kept themselves hidden from the presence [lit face] of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to Adam, and said to him, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:7-9 (AMP)
First thing we notice is that they try to cover their sin and shame [naked parts] with the leaves of the trees, then they try to completely cover [HIDE] the whole of their bodies with the trees from which the got the leaves! Be it partial covering or complete covering, the natural, material or even solid matter; these things cannot cover sin and shame. These things are the works of man and the religious, moral or social good works of men and women cannot cover sin and shame, only the sacrifice and covering of God’s choice can do this.
Secondly, nothing is hidden from God’s sight: God in His omniscience knew exactly where Adam was hiding and why he was hiding: “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). By asking, “Adam, where are you?,” the LORD is bringing Adam to the place of accountability. Adam is forced to confess that he is hiding from God because he has blatantly disobeyed God’s commandment: he has eaten the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, so as any sinner does, he hides from the Holy God of creation. As the Lord Jesus Christ said in John 3:17-21: “ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that does evil hates the light, neither come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”
God knew exactly where Adam was but did Adam? Look at the name, shame and blame game going on! None of these took personal responsibility or were willing to be accountable for what they personally had done! Nothing new ay! Everybody blames everyone else! It’s my parents fault the way I am, or the land in which I was born. It was my teachers or my peers or my education or lack of it. It was society or my employers or worse, let’s just blame God! Listen to Adam: “And the man said, “The woman whom “YOU” gave to be with me—she gave me [fruit] from the tree, and I ate it.” [3:12] We could say: ‘this life I’ve been dealt with is your fault God, you gave it to me!’ Hey, whatever happened to free will and freedom of choice!? Everything I’ve said, thought and done has been my own choice! Therefore I am personally responsible and accountable for my life and for every good or bad choice I’ve made I take personal responsibility and own up to it to God.
The Lord God made [coverings] of [animal] skins for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 3:21 Thankfully, God did something about our dilemma. “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He[even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 AMP. And For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; 9 not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation]. Ephesians 2:9-10 AMP So, there’s no need to hide yourselves or your sins from God! He knows all about them and He’s got you covered if only you would return to Him, repent of your sins and commit your life to Him.
And let me remind you. It is best to return to Him now because HE IS COMING BACK, READY OR NOT! Then it will be too late. So, get right with your Maker and Creator now.
